Early
Childhood
Our Early Childhood program has the best of
everything: staff, facilities, curriculum and education.
Combine this with our love of children and an enriching
Jewish environment, and you’ve got everything
you need for your young child to grow to his or her
highest potential!
The
Akiba Early Childhood program is designed to meet the most rigorous standards
in the classroom in terms of teacher qualification,
teacher/child ratios, safety and education. Akiba Academy is one of 13 schools
nationwide chosen to be part of the Jewish Early Childhood
Education Initiative (JECEI), ensuring that our education
is among the most progressive programming in the country.
Children learn best in an atmosphere
that is both challenging and nurturing. Early childhood
classroom experiences play an important role in determining
a child’s attitude toward school. For this reason,
Akiba’s Early Childhood program is carefully structured
to meet the needs of every child, and heighten his or
her sense of self-worth.
Our teaching staff works as partners
with parents, offering opportunities for experiential
learning based on the developmental level of each child.
The result is an arousal of each child’s curiosity
and imagination, encouragement of independent thinking,
and promotion of positive interactions with other children.
At Akiba Academy, our children are
taught to live and celebrate their Jewishness. Our Jewish
environment, like our academic environment, is carefully
planned to promote positive spiritual development. The
children are surrounded by colorful Jewish symbols,
and the sights, sounds, tastes and smells that we have
come to associate with our traditions.
Our
curriculum is designed in such a way that the following
subjects are interwoven into each child’s everyday
experience:
 |
Torah |
 |
Jewish prayer |
 |
Mitzvot |
 |
Middot (positive character development)
|
 |
Shabbat |
 |
Jewish values |
 |
Jewish holidays |
Children go home singing new Jewish
songs all the time. They are excited to “teach”
their parents the Torah lessons they have learned that
day. Bright, beautiful art projects are a visual reflection
of the meaningful Jewish learning going on in the classroom.
Family Shabbat and Holiday celebrations are opportunities
for parents (and grandparents) to share first-hand the
wonderful Jewish discoveries being experienced by their
children.
Skill building is taught in literacy,
Hebrew language, math and science. In addition to normal
classroom activities, children have regular music, art,
physical education and library time in our state-of-the-art
campus facilities.
Afternoon enrichment classes in science,
cooking, literature, drama, music and ballet are offered.
Through the teachers, the lessons
and the meaningful opportunities given to our children,
they develop a strong sense of Jewish self and love
for our heritage. |
